CORRECTION: Campgrounds Draft Meeting Location
Town Supervisor, Rick Wilt, has informed PLA representatives that the DEC has extended the Comment Period on Piseco Lake Campgrounds Proposed Unit Management Plan (Draft), and will be holding an open meeting at the Piseco School on Wednesday, June 14 at 5:00 PM.
Among other changes, this proposed plan calls for closing Poplar Point Campground to camping and redeveloping it as a no fee day use area and boat launch starting in 2017. The Town of Arietta is interested in operating the site as a day use area with beach and bathroom facilities. One important question is how will the Proposed Plan, if implemented, affect the monitoring of boats and trailers for invasive species, and taking corrective action before the boats are launched? Another question is, under the Proposed Plan, will the facility be monitored and maintained regarding responsible use, trash, etc?
Click here for the original announcement of the meeting and further details of the Proposed Plan, with links to more complete information on the Plan. Please note that the announcement has INCORRECTLY listed the site of the meeting. THE MEETING WILL BE HELD AT THE PISECO SCHOOL.
This Proposed Plan may have significant implications regarding our community and the Lake. The PLA Executive Committee, and the Town Supervisor, Rick Wilt, strongly encourage your attendance at the DEC meeting. Following the presentation by DEC officials, a question and answer/comment session will be held. Further, comments may be sent to the DEC until June 16, 2017 (address can be found in the attached announcement). We hope to see you there!
Best,
Chips Arend, Secretary
